INFORMATION IN ENGLISH
Clicking the "EN" button in the top right corner does not translate the entire website to English. Instead, it leads to this English section. Here you can find details on all the Edimotion program events accessible to non-German speakers, either in the menu on the left, or the drop-down menu on a mobile device.
WHAT EDIMOTION IS ABOUT
Edimotion is the world's oldest film festival that focuses exclusively on the art of film editing. Since 2001, it has offered the German-speaking editing community an annual event to showcase their work, facilitate discussion, and win awards. Since 2012, Edimotion has expanded its outreach to editors from all over the globe.
Our international program consists of: English language Workshops / Master Classes; the networking event International Film Editors Forum (IFEF); the International Panel; and the Guest Country Evening, where we invite a different country each year, featuring their editors’ association and a film from one of their leading editors. There are also some other Edimotion events which are accessible for non-German visitors.
The German-language sections of Edimotion include three competitions for our Editing Awards, or „Schnitt Preise“. Five nominated films are screened in each competition: Cinema Fiction, Cinema Documentary, and the Young Talent Award („Förderpreis Schnitt“), for short films of up to 20 minutes duration. Entries are restricted to productions from Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Each year we also honor a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, with two film screenings and a conversation about their oeuvre.
And finally, Edimotion propels the dialogue between filmmakers and the audience: There is a dedicated main topic each year, with panel discussions and lectures aiming to reflect the endlessly fascinating aspects of both the theory and the practice of film editing.
